eSnipe vs uBuyFirst: a fair comparison for eBay buyers

uBuyFirst describes itself as "the essential eBay buying software where professional arbitrage resellers turn expertise and existing sales channels into profitable eBay sourcing". That is an accurate summary of the product: it is aimed at people who buy on eBay as a business, sit at a desktop for much of the day, and want searching, filtering and purchasing in one window. Its About page lists a founder, a development lead and a support contact, and quotes 300k+ transactions and $40M+ in gross merchandise value through the app.

eSnipe is narrower on purpose. It watches public eBay search results and sends a message the moment a matching listing appears, either to a Discord channel through a webhook or to your phone through the iOS and Android app. It does not bid, snipe or buy, and it never asks for your eBay login. That makes it a good fit for collectors, part-time flippers and anyone who wants to know first but is content to tap through to eBay to complete the purchase.

If you are deciding between them, the honest question is whether you want a buying workstation or an alert feed. The workstation costs money and rewards full-time use. The alert feed is free and works wherever you already are.

uBuyFirst says it is "built on eBay's official developer API, not a scraper" and that "new matching listings reach you within seconds of going live". Its homepage goes further with "sub-second listing notifications". Its plan table separates "basic search speed" on the free Basics and paid Elite tiers from "fastest speed" on Enterprise, so the headline figure appears to describe the top plan. The desktop app keeps an always-on background scanner running and updates a results grid continuously.

eSnipe checks each monitor at an interval you choose, with one minute as the fastest option. In practice most alerts arrive within about 15 to 45 seconds of a listing going live. That is quick enough to be first on most items, but if you are competing for the same high-demand listings as other professional buyers, a tool that positions itself on sub-second delivery is the one to test. uBuyFirst's 30-day free trial with no credit card makes that test cheap.

One practical difference: because eSnipe reads public search results, it needs no eBay authentication and cannot be affected by a token expiring. uBuyFirst signs you in with eBay's own authentication so it can support buying from the app.

This is the clearest difference between the two. uBuyFirst's web app can push alerts to "email, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Discord — delivered whether or not your browser is open". Its desktop app adds a tray pop-up, a sound alert, and push to Telegram or Pushbullet. If your team already lives in Slack or you want a plain email trail, uBuyFirst covers it.

eSnipe supports exactly two channels: Discord and phone push. Each monitor can post to its own Discord webhook, so a server can have one channel per search, and each monitor can also send a push notification through the eSnipe app on iPhone or Android. There is no email, SMS or Telegram delivery. uBuyFirst does not list a native mobile app; its mobile path is a Telegram or Pushbullet relay from the desktop client, or the browser web app.

So the channel question resolves simply: many channels but no native phone app on one side, two channels including a native phone app on the other.

uBuyFirst lists filtering by "categories, keywords, price ranges, seller filters, and condition rules", and its FAQ adds brands, models, seller location and item specifics, including the ability to block sellers by registration country. Its plan table caps filters at 5 to 10 on the free and annual Elite tiers and makes them unlimited on Enterprise. It also advertises a business rules engine with profit calculations and risk assessment alerts, which eSnipe does not attempt.

eSnipe's filters are deliberately few: a price range, condition, listing type (auction or Buy It Now) and negative keywords, applied per monitor with no cap on how many filters or monitors you create. Negative keywords do most of the work for a typical buyer, removing "parts", "broken" or "case only" listings before they ever ping you. uBuyFirst's site does not list an exclude-word feature by that name, so we mark it "Not listed" rather than assume it is absent.

If you need seller-level rules or margin math, uBuyFirst is the deeper toolkit. If you need a clean feed of the right listings with minimal setup, eSnipe's filter set is enough for most searches.

uBuyFirst's Get Started page shows three plans. Basics is free forever and lists 3 to 5 search terms depending on billing cycle, with basic search speed. Elite is $24.99 per month (a regular price of $59.99 is shown crossed out) with up to 20 search terms. Enterprise is $49.99 per month, or $39.99 per month billed annually, with unlimited searches, the fastest speed, Buy Direct access and priority support. Everyone starts on a 30-day free trial of the full product with no credit card. A licence covers one active seat; extra seats are purchased separately.

eSnipe is free with no tiers. There is no cap on monitors, no slower speed on a free plan and no trial that expires. It is funded through the eBay Partner Network, which pays a commission when a purchase follows an alert link, and the price you pay on eBay is unchanged. eSnipe is not affiliated with or endorsed by eBay.

For a buyer who would otherwise sit on uBuyFirst's free Basics tier, eSnipe's unlimited monitors are a genuine upgrade at the same price. For a buyer who would pay for Enterprise, the question is whether in-app buying and extra channels are worth roughly $40 to $50 a month to you.

uBuyFirst's Pro Desktop App is a download for Mac or PC; the lighter web app runs in a browser with no download. Either way you sign in with eBay's authentication, add search terms, configure filters, and, if you plan to buy from the app, add your eBay account for purchases and offers. eSnipe takes a few minutes: create a monitor with your keywords and filters, paste a Discord webhook URL or install the phone app and switch push on for that monitor, and you are done. No eBay login, no desktop install, no API keys.

The two tools overlap on alerts but not on buying, so some resellers will reasonably run both. uBuyFirst on the desktop for the items you buy in volume, where checking out from the grid saves real time; eSnipe on your phone and in Discord for the searches you want to keep an eye on when you are away from the desk, and for sharing finds with a group.

Because eSnipe is free and has no monitor cap, there is no cost to adding it alongside a uBuyFirst subscription, and no cost to trying it first before deciding whether you need the paid workstation at all.
